Books

Books can be a big expense in college and its important to purchase them as cheap as possible. The best thing about books is that if you aren't going to need them after the semester, you can sell them again. But don't just sell them back to your school bookstore for a couple bucks, sell them online! You can sell your books online for around the same price you bought them for. ALSO, if you are already a student, you can sign up for a free Amazon Prime trial which gives you free shipping on most books to save an extra couple bucks.

Half.com

Half.com is my favorite website to sell books. All you need is your bank account number and routing number to start selling your books. Half.com also has lower commission fees than Amazon. To start go to Half.com and click on "Sell My Stuff" on the top bar. You can then enter in the ISBN number of your book you want to sell, a description, and the condition of the book. If you don't already have an account it will also ask you to make an account. The commission for books are only paid after your book sells and are as follows:

  • If your item sells for $0.75 – $50.00 you pay 15.0% commission.
  • If your item sells for  $50.01 – $100.00 you pay 12.5% commission.
  • If your item sells for $100.01 – $250.00 you pay 10.0% commission.

Half.com would be my best suggestion for selling your used text books.

Amazon
Amazon.com is another great site to sell your textbooks. It is a very easy process but you must also make an account. After you have made your account you can search for your textbook and click "Sell Yours Here" on the left side. Amazon has a different set of fees than Half.com which may end up being more expensive. They have a closing fee of $2.35 for books and another 15% of the price of the book. One upside is that books on Amazon may sell faster than half.com.
